Strange storm in Iowa

On a cold autumn afternoon in the skies over Iowa an unusual phenomenon occurred. The cameras recorded a quite remarkable and unprecedented collision of air masses which created these interesting clouds.

All this happened on 3rd October 2009. "A layer of cold air stood above Des Moines, and the coming storm stirred the air, creating ripples similar to that when we throw a stone into the water" - said Coleman Time a meteorologist in the National Institute of Space Technology in Alabama.

"When a boat goes through water, it pushes water upwards. At the same time gravity is pulling down and waves are created”. The storm, in this case, is the boat. You can clearly see that on these radar images. Coleman also said that the residents of Des Moines said that they felt "waves" of air over their heads.

"You could have seen these waves if you looked at the flags which were wavering on one side and then suddenly changed direction by 180 degrees" - explained Coleman.
