Body is a deserted town on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California, about 75 miles southeast of Lake Tahoe. It is situated at an altitude of 8,366 feet.

Gold was discovered here in 1859 by W. S. Bodey, after whom the town got its name. Bodey died in November of that year while he was returning from the store. A snow storm came and it caught him. Bodie was known for his lawlessness. At its peak, there were about 60 salons. Murder, strife, and robbery of mail carriages were a part of everyday life. According to a legend, when a girl found out that she was moving there with her family prayed to God: "Goodbye God, I am going to Bodie".

Bodie was a real "Chinatown" at one point. About 100 Chinese people lived there. They are mainly lived by selling vegetables, cutting, transporting and selling firewood. In winter the temperature often falls below zero, with winds reaching speeds that are up to 60 mph due to the wide open valley in which Bodie is located.

Today, Bodie is authentic and intact and seems that it is some kind of a ghost town. It is currently under state protection as a historic park. The interior of the houses remained the same as in the old days. The remains of Bodie represent a true image of the past times.
