Tito sold the space technology that helped America win the space race?

Is it a myth or the truth? There were some unprecedented events of the Cold War according to which Yugoslavia helped the U.S. to win the space race? The trailer for a Slovenian documentary "Houston, we have a problem" appeared yesterday on YouTube, and it intrigued people all over the world. America bought a secret space program from Tito that helped her conquer the universe.

Trailer for the documentary, which was shared on a well-known service for sharing video files, was placed by YugoslavianSpace on January 9th. It offers a rather unusual twist in the story of the Cold War more than 50 years after America landed on the moon in May 1961. The trailer states that the documentary will be released in 2013. The show revealed that the CIA found out about the secret Yugoslavian space program in 1960. They bought it in 1961 from the Yugoslav president because of their desire to be one step ahead of the Soviet Union. Only two months earlier, President John F. Kennedy announced their lunar ambitions.

Trailer of the documentary can be viewed here:

According to the documentary, the origin of the Yugoslav space program lies in the writings and work of Herman Potocnik, who wrote the book “The problem of driving the Vesolje" (The problem of space travel) in 1929. It inspired a former Nazi and the architect of the U.S. space program Werner von Braun. Technical solutions that are described in Potocnik’s unpublished works were only available to Tito and they represented the basis for the establishment of the Yugoslav secret space program in 1948 after the conflict between Josip Broz Tito and Stalin. It is a historical fact that in 1948 r there was a conflict between Tito and Stalin and that Yugoslavia was expelled from the Communist Information Bureau, which resulted in very poor relations between Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union until the end of 1955.

Back then, the standard of living in socialist Yugoslavia greatly improved and it underwent rapid economic development with the generous help from the US. The trailer reveals that Tito built the largest underground space center in Europe and that some of the U.S. missiles were made in it, and also that Tito and Jovanka Broz, his wife, were regular visitors of the NASA facilities. The base is a military airport Zeljava, near Bihac, on the Croatian-Bosnian border and it was known as "O-505" or "Object 505". It was destroyed by activating explosive devices in 1992.

The authors of the documentary are Bostjan and Virc Ziga and it is obvious that will we know the whole story after they complete the documentary.

Finally it is worth mentioning another very interesting thing, which we can easily connect with this. Yugoslav nuclear weapons development program was initiated in late '40s and for no particular reason it stopped by President Tito’s request in the '60s. The reason why Tito stopped the program is a mystery today. On one meeting he said: "Yugoslavia will have a nuclear bomb - even if it costs the country half of its GDP." It is known that more than 35 million U.S. dollars was spent for the program. Also, the alleged exploitation of uranium cost just as much. Many conspiracy theorists believe that it was just a curtain for the development of the space program which ended in an agreement between Tito and Kennedy.

Finally, a video from Tito's underground city, which was recently opened to public (serbian language):

In the case of most things, fortune favors the more resourceful and the bold. I guess we can say that all is fair game in this context.
