Lincoln Cathedral is the Anglican cathedral in Lincoln in England and seat of the Bishop of Lincoln in the Church of England. The building held the record as the highest in the world for 249 years (1300 - 1549). The tower collapsed in 1549 and had never been restored or rebuilt as the original. Renowned writer John Ruskin wrote: "Lincoln Cathedral is certainly one of the most precious examples of architecture on the British Isles." According to the official site of the cathedral, over one million pounds is spent each year for the maintenance, and a major restoration project began in 2000 which includes restoring the entire west side.
St. Olaf (522 feets)
The church of St. Olaf in Tallinn in Estonia is believed to be built in the 12th century and it was the center of the old Scandinavian community until Tallinn was conquered by the Danes in 1219. It is dedicated to the King of Norway Olaf II. The first written records of the church date back since 1267, and they say that the church was extensively renovated in the 14th century. The church has reached its current height of 522 feets in 1500. There was a desire for such a high building primarily because Tallinn was a great seaport, so you could see the church far from the sea. Lightning hit the tower are at least eight times, and the church was three times covered in flames.
Basilica of Our Lady of Peace (518 feets)
Basilica of Our Lady of Peace is located in Yamoussoukro, the capital of Ivory Coast. It is a Roman Catholic basilica dedicated to Our Lady of Peace. It was built in the period between 1985 and 1989.
